“The test we must set for ourselves is not to march alone but to march in such a way that others will wish to join us.” ― Hubert Humphrey

Transcript

Stuart Brody: The Frontier in American History by Frederick Jackson Turner … classic, a great book, and then something much more contemporary, which actually got me going, really was the impetus to reach out to Hubert Humphrey and become his mentee… with him being my mentor …was The Making of the President 1960. It’s a fabulous way of entering modernity, really. The Making of the President 1960 was about John Kennedy versus Richard Nixon, but Hubert Humphrey was in that, too, because he battled John Kennedy in the primaries …first primaries we had in America … Wisconsin and West Virginia, and that gave rise to a lot of stories, so you’d be in good stead reading those.
