Author Rick Riordan was a middle school English teacher for 15 years and, no matter which school he worked at, he learned that all kids wanted the same things from their teachers — engagement, passion, and someone who cared about them and took them seriously. Another challenge he gave himself was making sure every student left his class with at least one book they were passionate about.
