Author R.L. Stine Began Writing at 9 and His Teachers Discouraged Him

A shy kid, Author R.L. Stine started writing at 9 years old after he found an old typewriter in the attic and dragged it down to his room. Rather than playing outside as his mother suggested, he hunkered over the machine and wrote little magazines like “Tales to Drive you Insane.” He would bring them to school to get attention from his classmates and instead of encouraging him, his teachers told him to stop. Good thing he did not take their directives to heart.
