Author Leigh Bardugo Sees Writers Reinventing Heroes in Young Adult Books

Traditionally, the hero in books have usually been one kind of person … white and male. Author Leigh Bardugo is excited to say that more and more young adult novels out there are featuring heroes and victors who can be anyone—someone who has ADHD but who is an expert sharpshooter, a person of color, or a plus-sized girl. Hero’s stories belong to everyone and these books are telling their readers: “Go out and conquer!”
