When Author Christopher Paul Curtis graduated from high school, he got a job working in an automobile factory where he lived in Flint, Michigan. At the time, people—even without a college or even high school degree—could make a good living in Rust Belt cities like Flint. To make his shifts go by faster and to take his mind of the tedious work, he would write during his breaks.
