The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education
The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education is a national alliance of educator preparation programs dedicated to the highest quality professional development of teachers and school leaders in order to enhance PK-12 student learning. AACTE’s reach and influence fuel its mission of serving learners by providing all school personnel with superior training and continuing education. AACTE employs three key strategies to achieve its goals: advocacy, leadership, and service.
The American Federation of Teachers (AFT)
The AFT was founded in 1916 to represent the economic, social and professional interests of classroom teachers. It is an affiliated international union of the AFL-CIO. The AFT advocates sound, commonsense public education policies, including high academic and conduct standards for students and greater professionalism for teachers and school staff.
American School Counselor Association (ASCA)
ASCA supports school counselors’ efforts to help students focus on academic, personal/social and career development so they achieve success in school and are prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible members of society.
America’s Promise Alliance
America’s Promise Alliance is a cross-sector partnership of more than 300 corporations, nonprofits, and advocacy groups that are passionate about improving lives and changing outcomes for children. They have made a top priority of ensuring that all young people graduate from high school ready for college, work and life. Their work involves raising awareness, encouraging action and engaging in advocacy to provide children the key supports we call the Five Promises: Caring adults, Safe Places, A Healthy Start, An Effective Education and Opportunities to Help Others.
Center for Comprehensive School Reform and Improvement
The Center for Comprehensive School Reform and Improvement, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, provided research, on-the-ground tools, and technical support to help schools and districts engaged in school reform activities. The Center’s resources are free and available through its archived website.
First Book
First Book is a nonprofit organization with a single mission: to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. Through hundreds of local Advisory Boards, the First Book National Book Bank, and the First Book Marketplace, the organization provides an ongoing supply of new books to children participating in community-based mentoring, tutoring, and family literacy programs. First Book has provided more than 50 million new books to children in need in thousands of communities nationwide.
The Global Institute for Language and Literacy Development (GILD)
The Global Institute for Language and Literacy Development, LLC, (GILD) is an education consultancy that transforms education into aligned system of standards, assessments, curricula, and instructional strategies to ensure that English Language Learners achieve at the highest academic levels. GILD offers technical expertise, program evaluation, and systems analysis, as well as consulting and training services.
National Association of School Psychologists (NASP)
NASP represents school psychology and supports school psychologists to enhance the learning and mental health of all children and youth.
National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP)
In existence since 1916, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) is the preeminent organization of and national voice for middle level and high school principals, assistant principals, and aspiring school leaders from across the United States and more than 45 countries around the world. The mission of NASSP is to promote excellence in school leadership. NASSP provides its members with professional research-based and peer-tested resources, and practical tools and materials they need to serve as visionary school leaders.
The National Children’s Book and Literacy Alliance
The National Children’s Book and Literacy Alliance is a not-for-profit literacy organization created in 1997 by award-winning children’s book authors and illustrators with the goal of making issues related to young people’s literacy, literature, and libraries an ongoing priority on our national agenda. They act as a freelance, nonpartisan advocate, creating and developing special projects and events that promote literacy, literature, libraries, and the arts; educating the public about practical literacy and education solutions; and ensuring young people’s right to read.
National Education Association (NEA)
The National Education Association is the nation’s largest professional employee organization, representing 3.2 million elementary and secondary teachers, higher education faculty, education support professionals, school administrators, retired educators, and students preparing to become teachers. NEA’s Read Across America celebrates a nation of diverse readers and provides NEA members, parents, caregivers, and children the resources and activities they need to keep reading on the calendar 365 days a year.
National Summer Learning Association
The mission of the National Summer Learning Association (NSLA)is to create high quality summer learning opportunities for all young people. The NSLA is committed to expanding summer learning opportunities for disadvantaged children and youth as a strategy for closing the achievement gap.
News Media Alliance
The News Media Alliance was founded in 1992 through a merger of seven associations serving the newspaper industry and was originally known as the Newspaper Association of America (NAA). Their work focuses on the key challenges and opportunities of today’s news environment: Freedom of the press, public policy and legal matters, advertising growth, new revenue streams and audience development across all platforms. The News Media Alliance works with members, as well as other partner organizations, to advance the industry through advocacy, critical research and resources and events that connect and inspire.
Reading Is Fundamental (RIF)
RIF is the oldest and largest children’s and family nonprofit literacy organization in the United States. Through community volunteers in every state and U.S. territory, RIF provides 4.5 million children with 16 million new, free books and literacy resources each year. All RIF programs combine three essential elements to foster children’s literacy: reading motivation, family and community involvement, and the excitement of choosing free books to keep.
Reading with Pictures
Reading With Pictures is a nonprofit organization that advocates the use of comics in the classroom to promote literacy and improve educational outcomes for all students. They work with academics to cultivate groundbreaking research into the proper role of comics in education. They collaborate with cartoonists to produce exceptional graphic novel content for scholastic use. Most importantly, they partner with educators to develop a system of best practices for integrating comics into their curriculum.
Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA)
The Young Adult Library Services Association’s (YALSA) mission is to advocate, promote and strenghten library services to young adults. For over 50 years YALSA has been the world leader in selecting recommended reading, listening and viewing for teens. Youth Service America (YSA)
Youth Service America (YSA) is a national nonprofit resource center that partners with thousands of organizations committed to increasing the quality and quantity of volunteer opportunities for young people, ages 5-25, to serve locally, nationally, and globally. YSA believes that youth can be authentic leaders during childhood and adolescence and that meaningful youth service activities create strong, diverse communities of inspired, intelligent, civically-engaged young people. YSA provides information and educational resources including tip sheets, curriculum guides and tool kits help teachers, community leaders, and young people plan quality service projects, as well as grants and awards.
