Author Angie Thomas on Hip Hop Music as a Vehicle for Storytelling

Angie Thomas believes that society does not give music, especially hip hop, enough credit as a vehicle for real and honest storytelling. As a teenager, the rappers’ stories to which she was listening validated her experiences and emotions. She aims to bring that same honesty and raw truth in the books she writes.
